Our Vision

We want to empower New Zealand farmers to unlock the value of nature, to build prosperity for our farms, people and planet.

Carbonfields has been created to generate revenue for farmers from the existing bush, forest and scrub on their farms through carbon removal.

We recognise that many New Zealand farms are already playing an active role in removing carbon, and they should be rewarded for this. Farm revenue in the future will be derived not only from livestock and cropping, but also likely to include revenue from businesses such as energy generation, tourism and Carbon.

Carrfields, Geoff Ross of Lake Hāwea Station and CEO Kerry McIntosh are shareholders in Carbonfields, reflecting a partnership between farming enterprises and the carbon economy to deliver new, diversified revenue streams for landowners while supporting on-farm carbon removal

Our Purpose

Putting Farmers at the centre of New Zealand’s climate solution

Our Mission

We offer complete and simple (comprehensive end-to-end) solutions to all on-farm carbon and biodiversity opportunities.

Our Experienced Team

Kerry McIntosh - CEO

Kerry grew up in the country in South Canterbury and graduated from the University of Canterbury in 1986. After a career in investment banking and private equity, he moved into the start-up world as an angel investor, director and advisor across SaaS, AI and digital platforms. What ties it all together is a love of practical innovation — building businesses from the ground up, backing ambitious founders, and using technology to unlock smarter, scalable growth.

Today, as CEO of Carbonfields, he is focused on using software and AI to achieve our goal of putting landowners at the centre of the climate solution. He is a keen outdoorsman and can be found fishing or hunting most weekends.

Clare Leyland - Account Director

Clare grew up on a sheep and beef farm in Tasman and has worked across the rural and forestry sectors since graduating in 2019, building expertise in mapping and native carbon through her work on the Emissions Trading Scheme. Passionate about keeping farmers farming, she is focused on helping landowners unlock the value of native forests while making the ETS practical and accessible.

At Carbonfields, Clare works closely with farmers throughout the entire process, combining on-the-ground understanding with technical expertise. Outside of work, she can usually be found hiking, mountain biking, or chasing snow in the mountains.

Sam Quirk - Account Manager

Sam is the youngest and newest member of the team. Born and raised in Christchurch, he completed his studies at the University of Canterbury in 2024. Throughout his studies, he gained valuable practical experience through a range of part-time and summer roles, including irrigation and GPS construction, station hand work, and maintenance operations.

Sam joined Carbonfields in 2025 as a full-time mapper and has since progressed into the role of Account Manager. In this position, he works closely with farmers to guide them through the ETS process, helping them unlock and realise the value of the untapped potential within their vegetation assets.

Geoff Ross - Farm connection & marketing

Geoff grew up on a deer and dairy farm in northern Waikato and earned a BCom in Agriculture from Lincoln University. He spent nearly 30 years in consumer brands, holding management roles at Saatchi & Saatchi and DDB, then co-founding vodka brand 42 Below, which he listed on the NZX and later sold to Bacardi. Geoff has served as CEO or Chair of listed companies including 42 Below, Ecoya, Trilogy, Moa Brewing and Savor Group.

In 2018 he and his family bought Lake Hawea Station (LHS), the first carbon-zero certified farm in Australasia and the world’s only B Corp–certified sheep farm. LHS breeds Merino and Angus, supplying superfine Merino to global fashion brands. Geoff holds an honorary doctorate from Lincoln University and has received Marketer of the Year, Deloitte Fast 50, and KEA World Class New Zealander awards.

Geoff’s greatest interest is in creating more value for New Zealand farmers.
